Dr. Kārlis Žīgurs is a resident physician at the RSU Clinic of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy. He obtained his medical degree from Rīga Stradiņš University, additionally gaining international experience while studying at the University of Ljubljana.

During his studies, he was involved in the development of several scientific research projects, focusing on the prevalence of alexithymia among resident physicians, its association with chosen specialty, and alcohol use disorders.

He views mental, emotional, and physical health as closely interconnected and takes a particular interest in lifestyle factors influencing well-being, including nutrition, sleep, physical activity, and addiction prevention.

He believes that each individual is unique and nuanced, and that psychotherapy allows to gain a deeper understanding of one’s personal situation, inner processes, and life experiences, in order to collaboratively identify solutions for meaningful, sustainable change.

“The only normal people are the ones you don't know very well.”
